Dear Charmaine,

Because of these pics my next trip will be in Batanes. It's really wonderful.

Currently I am researching for our pre-Hispanic structures, temples, etc that still stands (or at least in ruins) up to this time.

Unfortunately its really hard to find. So far I found only the Banaue Rice terraces. Thanks to you, I learned about Idjang. Can you send me or post other pics, information regarding Idjang?

If you found other pre-Hispanic structures or the likes please inform me.

Regards and Thanks,
George

Hi there Fuqu!

Yes. Exploring Batanes is like reading a book filled with otherworldy imagery and breathtaking scenery.

Each island is a gem and each town is a snapshot of our somewhat elusive past.

It is great to witness the culture of the Ivatans. In Batanes, time virtually stops whenever someone builds a stone house. People within the community assign themselves specific tasks to achieve the most efficient construction process - some thatch the roof, some lay the stones, some even prepare sumptuous seafood for all who had taken part in the work. What an amazing people they truly are!

In Batanes, the native word for one's lending of a helping hand (and heart) is KAPANIDUNGAN.

Kapanidungan shows the inner strength of the Ivatan people - an inner strength that permeates their daily life and culture as a whole.
