The name is Nim
Hi again guys,
I got to watch Nim’s Island last wednesday.
It was either Nim’s Island or No Country. And I’m glad I watched the former instead of the latter. Well first, it’s perfect if you don’t want added stress from Oscar-winning depression. Haha. Yup that’s what I call the film No Country. Lest this becomes an account of No Country…I should start talking about Nim’s Island already.
I love the opening visuals. I was reminded of the opening credits of Lemony Snickets. Plot-wise, it’s very simple. There are three things that I liked. First, the character Nim’s love for books. She literally goes places when reading books. Very well read and she doesn’t even go to school (please don’t use this as an excuse to drop out!). Second, Nim–a little girl of 11 years old–is made of stern stuff! She fends for herself in an island while her marine biologist father is in the middle of the ocean looking for a specimen. She can restore the power after a storm. She can simulate a volcano erruption and rescue you by swimming underwater with a seal. Now ain’t that cool? Third reason is because of passion. The passion of Nim’s father rubbed off on her. I believe that when you pursue things with passion, you discover the secrets of life.
A fool for passion,
The Fool

I love the movie as well… you can learn so many things from this wonderful movie. There’s this line in the movie that struck me; “if we take care of our island, the island will take care of us.” I just took a deep breath and sighed… hope we could say that to ourselves… whew! 7,100 islands to love and care.
Peace to the Geeks!
