re: antivirus programs. though there are free downloadable versions, nothing beats the world-leading brands when it comes to updates, definitions and number of services. or get a mac, a fast-one (and it is quite disappointing apple is reserved when it comes to releasing high-specs, high-end notebooks), with a partition for microsoft is very good. it’s hard to leave microsoft for the obvious reason of flexibility. a wealth of programs can be installed and run on MS.
